Microdiscussion is a discussion activity among students facilitated by the department of agricultural microbiology. This discussion addresses various stages of coursework before reaching the thesis stage, such as fieldwork and class seminars. Microdiscussion not only covers academic-related topics but also provides tips and tricks necessary for navigating college life. It is hoped that Microdiscussion will serve as a platform for students to ask questions and gain broader insights about the college world from the experiences of various speakers, allowing microbiology students to prepare themselves for future academic challenges.
On Saturday, June 22, 2024, a Microdiscussion event with the theme “Sharing Fieldwork and Class Seminars” was held on-site at Karitoru Cafe, 2nd floor. The event was attended by Chandra Rizqullah, the Chairman of the Agricultural Microbiology Student Association, 35 active microbiology students, as well as Badran Sa’adi and I Nyoman Aris Suardana as speakers.
Badran Sa’adi and I Nyoman Aris Suardana are active agricultural microbiology students who have previously completed fieldwork and class seminars. Badran shared his experiences and the process of how he conducted his fieldwork at PT. Charoen Pokhpand Indonesia, as did Aris, who conducted his fieldwork at PT. Sinka Sinye Agrotama. In addition to discussing how they overcame challenges during their fieldwork, Badran and Aris also provided tips and tricks for conducting class seminars.
“Don’t be afraid of not being able to do new things,” said Badran, with Aris adding, “There are times when we get tired of repeating the same tasks, such as repeating experimental methods for upcoming class seminars. There are times when we feel lazy about going to the laboratory. That’s normal. Don’t push yourself too hard. Everything will be completed as long as we remain consistent.” Through this discussion, it is hoped that microbiology students who have not yet undertaken fieldwork and class seminars will feel more confident and better prepared to make choices in carrying them out. This synergy is a strong evidence to achieve the goal of SDG 4: Quality Education.
