The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), successfully held its 2024 Family Gathering with the theme “Happiness Together.” The event took place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Prof. Harjono Danoesastro Auditorium, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. It was attended by lecturers, current students, alumni, and academic staff. Designed to strengthen intergenerational ties within the department, the gathering brought together founders, alumni, and the newest class of students, creating a warm atmosphere full of camaraderie and family spirit.
The event began at 9:00 AM with an opening session led by the host, followed by a prayer. The Head of the Department of Agricultural Microbiology delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of synergy between generations to enhance the department’s contributions to science and society. The next session featured a presentation on the department’s history by a senior lecturer, offering participants a look back at its journey from its establishment to recent achievements. This was followed by an introduction to the department for new students, including an overview of facilities and flagship programs that distinguish the Department of Agricultural Microbiology.
The introduction of alumni and current students became a moment of connection across generations. Alumni from various years shared their experiences, offered motivation, and discussed their careers. Meanwhile, active students presented creative introductions, showcasing their current activities on campus. The event’s lively spirit was enhanced by performances from the Class of 2024, which featured artistic showcases highlighting the talents of the new students. Interactive games involving participants from all groups further enriched the atmosphere, fostering togetherness and strengthening bonds.
The gathering concluded with a closing speech by the organizers, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to the event’s success. A group photo session served as a symbol of unity for the entire Agricultural Microbiology family. The 2024 Family Gathering is hoped to strengthen relationships among lecturers, students, alumni, and staff. The theme “Happiness Together” reflects the collective spirit of the Agricultural Microbiology family at UGM to continue progressing and collaborating for the future.
This initiative also aligns with the department’s strong commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education.
