Fieldwork (Kerja Lapangan/KL) from January 6–31, 2025, was carried out by four students—Ravinella An Naura, Almayra Khanza Fahrani, Naza Alimah, and Sherly Aurora Cahyadewi—at PT Ajinomoto. This activity served as direct learning in the industry, particularly in the fields of microbiology, chemistry, and organizational management. Over the course of nearly a month, the students had the opportunity to observe the company’s work processes while also practicing the skills they had previously learned in the classroom.
During the program, the students gained many new experiences. In the field of microbiology, they learned to use petrifilm, culture media, and microbial analysis methods that they had never practiced on campus. They also had the opportunity to be involved in chemical analyses, ranging from COD and BOD testing on wastewater to heavy metal contamination analysis using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Beyond technical skills, they also acquired valuable insights into organizational governance and management that sustain and advance a company’s operations. The pleasant work environment and the openness of the staff for discussion made the experience even more meaningful.
As a reflection, the students expressed that the fieldwork at PT Ajinomoto was highly beneficial in expanding their knowledge and providing real-world experience. They also advised future participants to prepare themselves in advance by studying, so that once in the field, they can focus on learning new things. Moreover, they emphasized the importance of making the most of the fieldwork period—not only to enhance knowledge but also to broaden professional networks within the industry.
