The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has once again achieved an academic milestone through an international scientific publication. On June 29, 2025, a research article titled “Enhanced Biomass Production of Various Aquatic Duckweed Species Through the Inoculation of Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria” was officially published in the Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, a reputable journal in the field of aquatic biology and fisheries.
This research was the result of collaboration between lecturers and undergraduate students. The author team consisted of Dr. Desi Utami, S.P., M.Env.Sc., Ph.D., Ir. Ngadiman, M.Si., Ph.D., Prof. Ir. Sebastian Margino, Ph.D., and Prof. Ir. Donny Widianto, Ph.D., along with undergraduate students Dhea Azka Aghnia and Arnita Chrisany Tarigan. The article explores efforts to enhance biomass production of various duckweed species through the inoculation of plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB). The findings highlight the potential synergy between microbes and aquatic plants in supporting sustainable food systems and environmental management.
This publication not only enriches the scientific knowledge base in agricultural microbiology but also serves as tangible evidence of the active role of UGM’s lecturers and students in international-level research. The achievement is expected to strengthen UGM’s position in the global research arena while contributing to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
