The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), has once again achieved an academic milestone through an international scientific publication. On June 29, 2025, a research article titled “Enhanced Biomass Production of Various Aquatic Duckweed Species Through the Inoculation of Plant Growth-Promoting Bacteria” was officially published in the Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries, a reputable journal in the field of aquatic biology and fisheries.
The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, once again organized an industrial visit as part of its effort to broaden students’ insights. On Monday, June 9, 2025, from 10.00 to 11.00 WIB, students had the opportunity to visit PT Amerta Indah Otsuka Kejayan, a company engaged in the production of beverages and health nutrition products.
Carrying the theme “Reactor of Collaboration: Transforming Ideas, Weaving Synergy”, the activity was analogized as a reactor, where raw materials are transformed into something of greater value. Through this visit, students were expected to gain a deeper understanding of how academic knowledge is applied in real-world industrial practices. Direct interaction with the company also provided valuable learning opportunities regarding production standards, quality management, and innovation in maintaining product excellence.
The Department of Agricultural Microbiology through its Student Association (Permahami) has once again fostered inter-association collaboration through a benchmarking visit with the Student Association of Agro-Industrial Technology (Himatitan) of Universitas Brawijaya. The activity took place on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Faculty of Agro-Industrial Technology, Universitas Brawijaya, from 12:45 to 15:30 WIB.
This benchmarking served as a valuable platform for students to exchange information, experiences, ideas, and innovations between associations. Permahami and Himatitan came together in the spirit of collaboration, transforming their respective experiences and insights into joint programs that are not only inspiring but also applicable.
The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (Faperta UGM), in collaboration with Kasetsart University, Thailand, held a guest lecture open to the UGM academic community and the public. The event took place online via Zoom Meeting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, featuring Dr. Chanita Boonmak from the Duckweed Holobiont Resource and Research Center (DHBC), Kasetsart University, Thailand, as the keynote speaker.
The topic presented in this guest lecture was “Duckweed Microbiome: Unlocking Bacterial Potential for Environmental and Food Applications”, which highlighted research collaboration funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program.
The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), marked another important milestone during the May Graduation Ceremony held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. On this occasion, four students were officially conferred their bachelor’s degrees after completing their studies and research in the field of agricultural microbiology.
The graduates are Dapati Prima Gea, Karta Wijaya, Arya Dharma Sanjaya, Hanif Gustita Putra, and Cokorda Keigoputra Pemayun. Each of them successfully completed their academic journey with notable research contributions that advance scientific development, particularly in agricultural microbiology related to sustainable agriculture, environmental management, and biotechnology.
The Department of Scientific Affairs together with the Department of External Networking of PERMAHAMI UGM successfully held the Bincang Bareng Keilmuan (BBK) program on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 08.00 to 09.45 WIB via Zoom Meeting. This program was designed as an interactive space for knowledge exchange between students who already have professional experience and early-semester students seeking to understand various aspects of career preparation in the field of microbiology. Through this activity, students were guided to explore the requirements, procedures, and practical tips for choosing career paths that align with their interests, abilities, and potential.
Yogyakarta, May 3, 2025 – The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a training session on writing fieldwork (KL) reports, class seminars, and undergraduate theses, featuring speakers Prof. Ir. Donny Widianto, Ph.D., and alumna Roihana Ifa Kamalia, S.P. The training took place in person at the 3rd floor of the KPTU Building, Faculty of Agriculture, UGM. The participants consisted of Agricultural Microbiology students, particularly from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts, who in the upcoming semester will take courses on fieldwork, class seminars, and thesis writing. The main goal of this activity was to enhance students’ understanding of writing KL seminars, class seminars, and theses, as well as to equip them with the ability to produce high-quality scientific works.
The Agricultural Microbiology Study Program once again held its graduation ceremony for the April 2025 period on Monday, April 21, 2025. The event took place at the Agricultural Microbiology Library Room, AGLC Building, 4th Floor, starting at 1:00 PM, and was attended by all lecturers of the Agricultural Microbiology Study Program.
In his remarks, the Head of the Agricultural Microbiology Study Program, Ir. Ngadiman, M.Si., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the achievements of the two students who had demonstrated commitment and perseverance throughout their studies. He also reminded the graduates that education is not only about knowledge brought into the workplace but also about practicing integrity, maintaining the spirit of lifelong learning, and contributing meaningfully to society.
In an effort to enhance academic quality and study program governance, the Quality Assurance Team (GKM) of the Microbiology Study Program, Faculty of Biology, Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed), conducted a benchmarking visit to the Agricultural Microbiology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The event took place in the Microbiology Library Room, 4th Floor of the AGLC Building, Faculty of Agriculture UGM, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM WIB, and was attended by lecturers and leadership representatives from both institutions.
The Department of Social Affairs of PERMAHAMI (Association of Microbiology Students) organized a social event titled “Open Hand, Open Heart” on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Sayap Ibu Foundation, located at Jl. Rajawali No.3, Pringwulung, Condongcatur, Sleman. The event took place from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and was attended by the 2025/2026 daily board members of PERMAHAMI.
SBB (Sosmas Bagi-Bagi) is one of the flagship programs of PERMAHAMI’s Department of Social Affairs, designed to foster social awareness and compassion, especially for children in orphanages. This activity aimed to bring happiness, love, and a fun play experience to the children at the Sayap Ibu Foundation.
