Three Microbiology students from the class of 2019, had the opportunity to take part in student exchanges through the AIMS or ASEAN International Mobility Students Program. Robertus Hudy Utomo is an Agricultural Microbiology student who participated in a student exchange at one of the universities in the country of K-Pop, Gyeongsang National University. Hudy chose this university because he wanted to improve his competence. Not only that, according to him, South Korea can provide great opportunities for foreign students who can contribute to their country. After graduating from his undergraduate course, Hudy hopes to continue studying armed with the experience he has gained from this student exchange.

Robertus Hudy Utomo, one of the Agricultural Microbiology students won first place at the International Essay Competition, Asian International Mobility Students 2023 in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The competition that Hudy participated in was part of a study trip undertaken by Hudy while participating in a student exchange scholarship program at Gyeongsang National University (경상대학교), Jinju Korea. “Since the beginning when I was allowed to take part in a student exchange program in Korea, I wanted to explore as much knowledge as possible and all existing student activities, because this was a very valuable opportunity for me. One form is by challenging myself to take part in international competitions, instead, I can bring the good name of Indonesia and especially UGM, so that I feel that with the scholarship opportunity I get, I can bring home an award that I can present to the country and its people. people around me”.
The Savoir team, chaired by Cokorda Keigoputra Pemayun and consisting of Rania and Sausan Syadzafie Shafar as a team won 3rd place (2nd runner up) after competing with 27 works from various universities in Indonesia and abroad with essay title “SEAWATER TREATMENT UTILIZING GENRALITE (Genetically Engineered Bacteria Based Bioreactor Integrated with Layered Filtration System)” at the Saraswati International Competition Essay Competition (SIC) organized by Mahasaraswati University, Denpasar in Student Scientific Week (PILLAR) X. The announcement of the SIC winners was held on 6 February 2023. This essay raises the issue of ocean health and its relation to water scarcity as essential for the survival of living things. The Savoir team presented an innovative bioreactor for managing seawater as a source of consumption water with various technically integrated filters.
On Wednesday, 24 May 2023, the Department of Microbiology together with hackteria.org held a workshop entitled GOSH Global LAMP – Open Fluorescence Meter Workshop: Simple electronic workshop which is a form of training in making open fluorescence meters using simple electronic tools. This workshop was delivered by Dr. Marc R. Dusseiller a representative from hackteria.org to provide knowledge about various electronic and laboratory equipment that can be assembled by yourself at a low cost so that laboratory equipment can be more accessible. Apart from the Microbiology Department, this workshop has also been held at several institutions in several countries with similar topics. This activity was attended by more than 20 Agricultural Microbiology students and was divided into several sessions, which included presentations of materials and demonstrations of laboratory tools that were successfully made with simple electronic devices, as well as hands-on practice of making simple fluorescence meters.
