She was part of the UGM-Indonesia Team, representing both Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Indonesia in a prestigious international competition in the field of Synthetic Biology. The event, which attracted more than 400 teams from various high schools and renowned universities across over 66 countries, was the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition. This year, the iGEM Grand Jamboree was held in Paris, France. The iGEM competition originated from a summer school program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2003. Over the past two decades, it has fostered research innovations, companies, and leading biotechnology startups such as Ginkgo Bioworks, Asimov, and Benchling.
2. Agricultural Microbiology Team (Savoir) Secures 2nd Runner-Up at Saraswati International Competition in Bali, 2023
The Savoir Team, led by Cokorda Keigoputra Pemayun and comprising members Rania and Sausan Syadzafie Shafar, achieved 2nd runner-up at the Saraswati International Competition (SIC). Competing against 27 submissions from various universities in Indonesia and abroad, their essay titled “SEAWATER TREATMENT UTILIZING GENRALITE (Genetically Engineered Bacteria Based Bioreactor Integrated with Layered Filtration System)” showcased their innovative approach. The competition was part of the Student Scientific Week (PILLAR) X, organized by Mahasaraswati University in Denpasar.
3. Robertus Hudy Utomo
(Wins First Place in Essay and YouTube Shorts Competition at Asian International Mobility Students in Seoul, South Korea 2023)
Robertus Hudy Utomo, a student of agricultural microbiology known as Hudy, made a significant impact for Indonesia, particularly Universitas Gadjah Mada and the field of agricultural microbiology, by winning first place in the International Essay Competition at the Asian International Mobility Students 2023 in Seoul, South Korea. This competition was part of Hudy’s study trip during his student exchange program at Gyeongsang National University (경상대학교) in Jinju, Korea.
Competing against international students from various universities and countries, including Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and others, Hudy’s essay titled “Mimpi Merajut Harapan di Tanah Gingseng (Korea)” earned him top honors. The competition was organized by the Korean Council for University Education and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, further showcasing Hudy’s talent and dedication.
