The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held its October yudisium ceremony on Friday, 17 October 2025, at the Department Library located on the 4th floor of the AGLC Building. The event, which took place from 13.00 to 14.00 WIB, was attended by all faculty members of the Department of Agricultural Microbiology.

During the ceremony, three students were officially declared graduates, namely Chandra Rizqullah Triananda, Rania, and Yena Amalia. A warm and celebratory atmosphere filled the room as lecturers congratulated the graduates for successfully completing their academic journey in the Agricultural Microbiology study program. read more

The MIKROINSPIA program, held on Sunday, 5 October 2025 by the Association of Agricultural Microbiology Students (PERMAHAMI), Faculty of Agriculture UGM, provided a new and meaningful experience for participating students—particularly in developing empathy, social awareness, and a deeper understanding of children’s education. Conducted at the Realino Learning Community, the event offered an opportunity for Agricultural Microbiology students to directly engage in teaching kindergarten to elementary school children from diverse economic backgrounds and varying levels of educational access. read more

The Community and Social Affairs Department of the Association of Agricultural Microbiology Students (PERMAHAMI), Faculty of Agriculture UGM, once again held the program Mikrobiologi Menginspirasi Anak (MIKROINSPIA) on Sunday, 5 October 2025 at the Realino Learning Community, Jombor. This year, MIKROINSPIA adopted the theme “First Spark, Endless Journey,” a concept that emphasizes the importance of an initial spark of learning for children as the foundation of a long educational journey.

The Event Coordinator, Oddie Christian Tamzil, explained that the theme was inspired by the belief that even a single encounter can leave a meaningful and lasting impression on children. The hope is that this activity will encourage children to pursue knowledge to the greatest heights in the future. read more

The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held its Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Department Library, AGLC Building, 4th Floor. The event, which took place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, marked an important milestone for four students officially declared as graduates: Naufal Fathan Fakhrizal, Retno Cahyani Prasetyaningtyas, Hanifa Afifia Sholihatunnisa, and Hafsah Dwi Nur Haliza.

The ceremony was attended by all lecturers from the Department of Agricultural Microbiology, who came to congratulate and celebrate the achievements of the new graduates. In his address, Prof. Ir. Donny Widianto, Ph.D., reminded the graduates that this moment marks the beginning of a new chapter. The event, themed “Flowing Together, Growing Stronger”, took place on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 06.00 to 16.00 WIB at New Rivermoon Tubing, Klaten, Central Java.

Inspired by the philosophy of water that continuously flows, Riverbond symbolizes unity, collective growth, and mutual support amidst academic and organizational challenges. The tubing activity served not only as a recreational outlet but also as a platform to foster stronger collaboration, reinforce solidarity, and provide a refreshing break from academic routines. read more

The Student Resource Development Department (PSDM) together with the PERMAHAMI Executive Board successfully organized the PERMAHAMI Writing Program 2025 on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 08.00 to 14.00 WIB. This program was designed as a solution to the challenges faced by students in academic writing, particularly in finding reliable and relevant scientific journals, citing sources properly, and compiling bibliographies according to the Faculty of Agriculture’s thesis writing guidelines.

The event began with an introduction to the department and study program delivered by the Head of Department and the Head of the Microbiology Study Program. It was then followed by a session with invited speakers, covering effective strategies for finding scientific journals, proper citation techniques, the structure of laboratory reports, and the correct way to compile bibliographies in accordance with academic rules. read more

The Department of Agricultural Microbiology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), marked another important milestone during the May Graduation Ceremony held on Thursday, 28 August, 2025. On this occasion, four students were officially conferred their bachelor’s degrees after completing their studies and research in the field of agricultural microbiology.

The graduates are Fajar Nugrahanto, Rizky Octavya, Fathia Thaurika Rahma, Muhammad Sativa Arsya, Tasya Rindhy Bella Antika, dan Zikra Fathin Nabila. Each of them successfully completed their academic journey with notable research contributions that advance scientific development, particularly in agricultural microbiology related to sustainable agriculture, environmental management, and biotechnology. read more

Yamagata University, Japan, became the host institution for Hafsah Dwi Nur Haliza, a 2021 student of Agricultural Microbiology at UGM, who is familiarly known as Lisa. She had the opportunity to participate in the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) program for one year. Through this program, Lisa gained invaluable experiences while studying abroad.

The striking differences in daily life overseas initially brought Lisa a sense of culture shock upon her arrival in Japan. Over time, however, various adjustments allowed her to adapt and follow the rhythm of life there. The new environment broadened her horizons, both academically and culturally. read more

On Monday, May 26, 2025, from 07.00 to 12.00 (WIB), students of the Agricultural Microbiology Study Program, class of 2023, conducted a visit to Sewon Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP). This activity was part of the Aquatic Microbiology Practicum series, aimed at demonstrating the application of microbiology in wastewater treatment as well as providing direct experience of the professional field. Through this visit, students gained insights into domestic wastewater treatment processes, the role of microorganisms in bioremediation, and the implementation of safety principles and environmental sustainability practices applied at the WWTP. read more

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again carried out a community service program by introducing an innovation in the use of fermented duckweed (Lemna sp.) as feed for fish and livestock. The activity was held at the Al-Dzikro Orphanage Foundation, Imogiri, Bantul, as an effort to promote food self-sufficiency while also encouraging productive economic enterprises within the orphanage.

Duckweed, or kiambang, is a high-protein aquatic plant with great potential as an alternative feed source. Through the fermentation process, the nutritional value of duckweed can be enhanced and its digestibility improved, thereby not only reducing feed production costs but also opening new business opportunities based on local resources. read more
