PERMAHAMI once again carried out one of its flagship programs, Microbiology Goes to School, organized by the Department of Social and Community Affairs. This educational initiative took place on Monday and Tuesday, 17–18 November 2025, from 14:00 to 15:20 WIB, at four partner schools: SMAN 3 Yogyakarta, SMA IT Baitussalam, SMAN 1 Sleman, and SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. Through collaboration with senior high schools in Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, this program aims to provide students with a basic understanding of general microbiology and agricultural microbiology, share experiences as students of Agricultural Microbiology, and introduce career prospects within the field.
Carrying the theme “Tiny World, Big Curiosity,” the activity highlights that the microscopic world, although invisible to the naked eye, holds remarkable wonders capable of sparking boundless curiosity. The phrase Tiny World symbolizes the realm of microorganisms, which play vital roles in life, particularly in agriculture and the environment. Meanwhile, Big Curiosity represents the enthusiasm and scientific exploration spirit that the program seeks to cultivate among students. Through this theme, Microbiology Goes to School aims to ignite students’ interest in microorganisms and inspire them to view microbiology as a field closely connected to everyday life.

The event was conducted through an introduction session about the Department of Agricultural Microbiology, delivered directly by PERMAHAMI members. Students were given the opportunity to learn about the department’s academic structure, laboratory activities, research opportunities, and the academic journey of microbiology students. Additionally, firsthand sharing from the students provided real insights into university life and encouraged high school students to confidently plan their academic futures.
The Microbiology Goes to School program contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education by providing inclusive access to scientific learning for high school students; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by offering equal educational opportunities to diverse schools; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between PERMAHAMI and partner schools in promoting broader and impactful scientific education.
